RELEASE: U.S. Office of Personnel Management Releases New Data Strategy and Dashboards to Increase Federal Agency Access to OPM Data Products and Services
Washington, D.C. – The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) released its OPM Data Strategy Fiscal Years 2023-2026, which lays out a vision to fully leverage OPM and agency human capital data, and to provide federal agencies, federal employees, and public users seamless access to OPM data products and services. In addition to the overarching strategy, OPM released a set of initial data dashboards to the updated OPM Data Portal at www.opm.gov/data, including FedScope datasets which can now be accessed at www.opm.gov/data/datasets. The OPM Data Portal is a redesigned OPM webpage providing increased access to OPM data products and services.
“As envisioned in the President’s Management Agenda and in OPM’s mission and vision, OPM is poised to be recognized as a premiere provider of human capital data services by building innovative service delivery models, analytics, and digital solutions that enable federal agencies to make better decisions,” said Kiran Ahuja, OPM Director. “OPM's first broad human capital data strategy is not meant to be only internally focused. It will also have a transformative effect for agencies, lifting up the use of data and advanced analytics across agencies and their partners to new heights in data-driven and evidence-based decision-making.”
The OPM Data Strategy aims to foster a stronger governmentwide data-driven culture, deliver high-quality human capital data products, leverage technology to improve data collection and integration, and strengthen data governance and management. The OPM Data Strategy aligns with the Federal Data Strategy Action Plans for 2020 and 2021, Strategy 4 of the Workforce Priority of the President’s Management Agenda, and OPM’s Strategic Plan, as well as results from organizational assessments and broad customer feedback.
The OPM Data Portal includes the following initial public-facing dashboards:
- Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey (FEVS) Dashboard shares results and indices across the federal government and by agency size. The OPM FEVS is an employee survey that tracks how federal employees view their current work environment, including management, policies, and new initiatives. OPM FEVS is an unmatched government data asset that assists agencies in supporting the skilled workforce needed to serve the American people;
- Cyber Workforce Dashboard provides interactive data and visuals on the information technology, cyber security, and cyber-related functions that make up the Cyber Workforce as defined by the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) work roles. The dashboard will be used to inform workforce planning efforts and support agencies in data-driven decision-making on current and future cyber requirements; and
- Hiring Manager Satisfaction Dashboard supports federal agencies with tracking hiring manager satisfaction metrics and metrics on questions related to the Chief Human Capital Officer (CHCO) Hiring Manager Satisfaction survey. This public-facing dashboard was created in response to the November 30, 2022, President’s Management Agenda memorandum requesting agency actions on success metrics related to the Workforce Priority, which includes increasing the percentage of hiring manager satisfaction with the hiring process.
