NEWS: OPM Issues Guidance on Governmentwide Dismissal and Closure Procedures

WASHINGTON, DC - The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) issued a memorandum reminding agencies of the Governmentwide Dismissal and Closure Procedures that was issued in November 2018.

“The safety of our workforce and the general public is our greatest concern.  This memo will remind agencies and managers the tools they have available to them when an operating status announcement is issued by OPM,” said Director Dale Cabaniss.  “These procedures reflect that the principle of the federal government’s vital business must continue without compromising safety of our public servants.”

OPM’s regulations and procedures make clear the circumstances in which weather and safety leave may be used.  The memo has resources for how to find out more information.
