Statement: OPM Honors the Life of Former President George H.W. Bush
STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF GEORGE H.W. BUSH:
Today OPM honors the life of former President George H.W. Bush who exemplifies the impact a true civil servant can have on our country. His steadfast devotion to country and family created an unparalleled legacy of dedication to the greater good. President Bush spent more than 70 remarkable years working for the American, people, serving as a Navy pilot during World War II, a Texas congressman, Ambassador to the United Nations, Chief U.S. Liaison to the People's Republic of China, Director of the C.I.A., Vice President, and then as President of the United States.
He inspired us with his dream of working together, encouraging us to shine as “a thousand points of light” through volunteerism and service. And his unwavering love of family and kindness showed us that we can lead effectively with character and heart.
The thoughts and prayers of OPM are with the Bush family during this time of mourning, and we are grateful for his example of patriotism with compassion.
