STATEMENT: Director Pon Applauds NDAA Signing
From OPM Director Jeff T.H. Pon:
Yesterday President Trump signed the John S. McCain National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2019, which provides Federal agencies greater flexibilities to hire qualified job candidates for government positions.
The NDAA increases the latitude of Federal agencies to determine the size of the qualified applicant pool for Federal positions in the competitive service filled through the competitive examining process. It also provides greater agility to recruit recent graduates and students on college campuses by modifying the recruitment and hiring procedures to provide a new avenue for these applicants.
I’m pleased to see Congress and this Administration take meaningful steps to attract the necessary talent to Federal service. Agencies and job seekers alike will welcome these positive developments toward the goal of developing a workforce for the 21st century.
The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) is the leader in workforce management for the federal government. Our agency builds, strengthens, and serves a federal workforce of 2.2 million employees with programs like hiring assistance, healthcare and insurance, retirement benefits, and much more. We provide agencies with policies, guidance, and best practices for supporting federal workers, so they can best serve the American people.
