USAJOBS Transitions to Login.gov for Account Sign On
Job applicants will benefit from an emphasis on security, privacy and usability as USAJOBS utilizes login.gov for its underlying identity platform
WASHINGTON, DC - The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) announced today that the federal job posting website USAJOBS will begin using login.gov to make signing into USAJOBS easier, faster and more secure. Login.gov is a service that provides a secure online platform for government programs, such as federal benefits, services and applications. With a login.gov account, users will be able to sign into multiple government websites with the same email address and password.
“A major reason USAJOBS will be transitioning to login.gov is because it uses two-factor authentication, which will give users an extra layer of security to help protect their USAJOBS profile against password compromises,” said Michelle Earley, USAJOBS Program Manager.
The U.S. General Service Administration’s (GSA) 18F and the United States Digital Service (USDS) created login.gov. In May 2017, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) became the first agency to use login.gov and utilized it for the CBP Jobs application. In October 2017, CBP rolled out the Trusted Traveler Program to enroll travelers in Global Entry. USAJOBS is the largest program to date to utilize the login.gov platform, and several other agencies are in the process of integrating login.gov for their users.
“We are very excited to partner with USAJOBS and use login.gov’s platform to further USAJOBS mission of serving millions of job seekers,” said Joel Minton, Director of login.gov at GSA. “With USAJOBS and CBP Jobs both utilizing our platform, we now have the first set of users using the same login.gov account to access different government services. The sharing of logins will continue to increase as we bring on more agencies and will result in a more seamless user experience and costs savings to both agencies and taxpayers."
