FEGLI life insurance open seasons are rare. The most recent FEGLI open seasons were in 2004 and 2016.

Enrollees can cancel or reduce FEGLI life insurance at any time, without waiting for an open season.

Enrollees can also make changes to their beneficiary designation at any time.

To elect or increase coverage, employees can pass a physical exam, have a qualifying life event such as marriage or birth, or wait for a life insurance open season.  For more information, please visit www.opm.gov/life.
