My agency is looking to revamp the New Supervisor training. Can anyone provide an example or structure of how their agency's New Supervisor Training looks like?

Our organization is looking for “continuous learning” opportunities, in any format/media, in the following areas. The key aspect is we’re looking for training, within the federal government, that incurs no cost!, that other Depts/Agencies may have and are willing to share! The areas are: Financial Management, Oral Communication, Conflict Management, Human Capital Management, Political Savvy, Developing others, Performance Management. The characteristics of the training should be: Leadership development focus; Short in duration – 1 hour, half day, 1 day, 1 day per Quarter; Impactful – motivational and inspirational – sparks interest and ideas; Practical – insight that can be used to guide career planning and decision-making – subject matter that is useful yet interesting; Collaborative approach – reach out cross federal government Depts/Agencies. Thank you very much, any insight is much appreciated, or, if you know of someone who could help, that would be great!

Good afternoon. My agency is looking to update their policy/guidance with respect to continuing service agreements. If your agency has a policy/instruction that pertains to CSA could you please provide a copy? Thanks.

The Treasury IG for Tax Administration is looking for training space in the Washington DC area to accomodate 60 people. Does any agency have space available for a week in August?

I'm interested in taking a local course in the Bay Area on Hypnotherapy because I'm a licensed MFT working at the San Francisco Vet Center. The Hypontherapy Institute is not in the Local VA fed contract system and so if I take this course, I would pay for it but not be reimbursed. If through this learning systems I could do this I would now and get reimbursed later right?

I am located at DHS HQ (at the NAC) an am looking for other preferably NAC-based offices who may be interested in starting a local Toastmasters club to practise public speaking. Alternatively, I am looking for other DC-area TM clubs that are robust. (The main TM website has mutliple listings of clubs in downtown DC but limited options for NW DC). Thanks in advance.

Best Practice Sharing -- 2 questions. 1. At present, our agency does not try to organize the various required annual trainings (around security, EEO etc.). Is there an agency that has a best practice on how such trainings get scheduled, reinforced, and measured to both maximize impact and minimize employee time completing these requirements? 2. We are soon going to develop training in support of the Plain Writing Act of 2010. Is there an agency that already has a good training program (or e-learning) established for this? It would be great to share best practices on these items. Thank you.

Richard: you can find a list of agencies who have Plain Writing courses on the "Sharing Resources and Collaborating Across Agencies" wiki page.  Also, you can download SSA's course from that page.  Julie Brill

For purposes of implementing training under 410/412, what are the official definitions of supervisor and manager--and the associated training requirements of each? I'm only seeing specific training objectives and guidance for federal supervisors...

Edward, was wondering how your custom LMS (Moodle) implementation is going? As many agencies may find this to be a possible solution for their needs, can you share the code updates are being handled (since it is an Open Source tool)? What controls/processes have been implemented to ensure there is no malicious code (e.g., Trojan Horse)introduced? Thanks!

Erin: 1. I recommend that all participants read "Leading at the Speed of Trust" so you become a team. 2. CommerceConnect is doing this intra agency. 3. The Defense Acquisition University may be doing so in an interagency manner.

Thank you to those who were kind enough to respond. We are currently tracking all of the EHRI required data elements in our HR system and reporting monthly to OPM. Until we have a formal LMS in place we continue to struggle with the delegation process and tracking the full use of training dollars.

Help please! I don't have comment about LMS but am hoping if someone could share with me the major roles Training Officers have and the requirement of. Reason I ask, I have been trying to convey the need with fellow employees to ensure training requests are routed to the Training Officer and approval has been received prior to attending the training. I believe if I am provided this information, it will put to rest this challenge, their need to comply. FYI, For the most part, I have been hearing, "Why does training need to be approved by the Training Office when my supervisor has already approved it, and the funds have been allotted to us for such." I have advised, PRs serve as a contract and the Training Officer serves as the Contracting Officer.

I think you will find that many agencies are sing the SF-182 function in their LMS. I head the Government Plateau Users Group Subgroup on SF-182. Since so many agencies use the Plateau LMS we have been working together to improve the SF-182 functionality available in the product. If you woudl like to talk more about what we have been doing let me know. Although you don't have the Plateau Learning module I believe EPA licenses the Plateau performance management module and might be able to build off of it.

Sharon, We are currently developing a custom LMS (using a Moodle platform) with OPM's GoLearn/Emerging Solutions and will launch shortly. It will include an SF-182, a self ILT registration system, and automatic tracking for EHRI of all ILT and online courses. You may wish to contact Will Peratino at OPM if you are interested in learning more about our LMS. Will's email address is william.peratino@opm.gov

Sharon, We are also using an LMS to manage our SF-182s and report to OPM. Steve, Are you reporting the EHRI codes to OPM? Would love to talk about some of the challenges we have faced and to look at how different agencies have solved those problems.

I am participating in a leadership program with USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS). We are working on a team project: an Ambassador Program, where employees would participate in exchanges with hosts in different APHIS programs. The project goals would be to break down institutional barriers, increase collaboration, and improve problem solving. Does anyone know of an inter-agency exchange program like this already in existence?

Hi Sharon-Treasury uses its LMS to manage its SF-182s.

The Environmental Protection Agency does not yet have a formal LMS system in place. We currently have a semi-manual process for managing our SF182s where all documents filter through the Training Department for processing. I would like to hear how other Agencies are managing this process to see how we might streamline the process. Thanks.
