Foster a Results-Oriented Culture: How to Write Plans and Standards

August 23, 2016 | 9:00am – 4:00pm | Washington, DC

$350/person

This 1-day workshop on writing performance plans and standards will give you confidence in your performance management planning process. A Federal performance management expert will provide hands-on training and best practices for writing measurable, results-oriented performance standards, discuss OPM policies and regulations for performance plans, and share tips for coaching others to improve performance standards. HR Professionals and supervisors are welcome. Learn more about the Foster a Results-Oriented Culture: How to Write Plans and Standards training.

Dealing with Poor Performers: From Counseling to Taking Action

August 24, 2016 | 9:00am – 4:00pm | Washington, DC

$350/person

Addressing poor performance can seem like an uphill battle, or worse, a losing battle. This course guides supervisors on the steps required before taking action on poor performance. The instructor will also offer guidance on improving communication, providing early counseling, and providing an opportunity for improvement. Finally, the course differentiates between the two authorities used for performance-based actions (5 CFR Part 432 and Part 752) when performance continues to decline. Participants will receive practical checklists for each step in the process to ensure actions will be sustained. Learn more about the Dealing with Poor Performers training.

Crucial Conversations (New!)

August 30-31, 2016 | 9:00am – 4:00pm | Washington, DC

$695/person

Crucial Conversations is a 2-day course that teaches skills for creating alignment and agreement by fostering open dialogue around high-stakes, emotional, or risky topics—at all levels of an organization. By learning how to speak and be heard (and encouraging others to do the same), participants will begin to surface the best ideas, make the highest-quality decisions, and then act on those decisions with unity and commitment. For more information, please email HRTrainingOnDemand@opm.gov.

Classification Refresher

October 4-6, 2016 | 9:00am – 4:00pm | San Francisco, CA

$900/person

In this 3-day refresher course, a federal classification expert will discuss current topics in basic and advanced classification (e.g., the Factor Evaluation Standard and narrative standard formats, defensible evaluation statements, statements of difference, and classifying developmental and supervisory positions). The instructor will review commonly appealed classification decisions, discuss position management issues, and provide an update from OPM's Classification Policy Section. Previous classification training or experience is required. For more information, please email HRTrainingOnDemand@opm.gov.

Driving Positive Change: Turning Survey Results into Real Actions

October 25, 2016 | 9:00am – 4:00pm | Washington, DC

$400/person

You get a wealth of information from organizational surveys like the Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey. When used wisely, these results can drive meaningful change in your organization and increase employee engagement in the process. When used ineffectively, however, you run the risk of demotivating your people and hampering your agency's ability to meet its mission. This 1-day course, led by an OPM Personnel Research Psychologist, will teach you to effectively interpret organizational survey results and show you how to focus on important areas that will have an impact on employee engagement and performance. You'll learn how to recommend areas to improve and how to begin the action planning process to convert those recommendations into tangible actions. You will also engage in an interactive review of actual survey data to give you real-world experience interpreting survey data and translating the results into action. For more information, please email HRTrainingOnDemand@opm.gov.
